Your bridge to
optimal oral health

Professional hygiene care led by our Oral Health Therapists, Adrienne and Tracy — the foundation of a vibrant smile and lasting oral health.

Dental Hygiene

Hygiene care, led by our Oral Health Therapists.

Dental hygiene is the cornerstone of oral health — a synergy of regular professional care and diligent at-home routines that wards off cavities, gum disease, and more.

At Coastal Dental, your hygiene care is led by our Oral Health Therapists, Adrienne and Tracy, who head our preventative care department. They combine the skills of a dental hygienist and dental therapist, so every visit covers both the clean itself and the guidance you need to maintain it at home.

Our Services

Dental Hygiene Services at Coastal Dental

Comprehensive, customised hygiene care — from your first visit through to a lifetime of optimal oral health.

Regular Cleanings

Professional cleans remove the plaque and tartar that brushing simply can't reach. Our therapists use ultrasonic scalers and gentle technique — thorough, but comfortable.

Gum Health Assessments

Gums are often the first place trouble shows. We chart your gum health at every visit and act early, before small issues become bigger ones.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride strengthens enamel and makes teeth more resistant to decay. Particularly valuable if you're cavity-prone or your diet is high in acid.

Sealants

A thin protective coating on the chewing surfaces of molars, sealing out food and bacteria. Especially effective for children and cavity-prone adults.

Oral Hygiene Education

Patient education is core to what an Oral Health Therapist does. Adrienne and Tracy walk you through brushing, flossing, and diet — so results last between visits.

Regular hygiene practices — both at home and professionally — substantially reduce the risk of dental diseases like cavities and gum disorders, and the systemic conditions linked to them.

Halitosis Management

Consistent dental hygiene plays a pivotal role in managing and preventing bad breath — ensuring freshness and the confidence to engage freely in every conversation and social setting.

Systemic Health

Numerous studies have highlighted links between oral health and systemic diseases — including heart ailments and diabetes. Maintaining good oral hygiene acts as a meaningful preventive measure for your whole-body health.

Economic Benefits

Investing in dental hygiene now can significantly reduce the financial burdens of complex dental treatments in the long run. Prevention will always cost less — in every sense — than treatment.

For most patients, every 6 months is the standard recommendation. However, patients with active gum disease, a history of frequent cavities, dry mouth, or certain medical conditions may benefit from more frequent appointments — sometimes every 3–4 months. At Coastal Dental, we'll assess your individual risk at each visit and recommend the interval that best protects your oral health.
Even excellent home care can't remove everything. Within days, plaque that escapes the brush hardens into tartar (calculus) — a mineralised deposit that no toothbrush or floss can shift. Only professional instruments can remove it, and tartar left in place irritates gums and harbours the bacteria behind decay and gum disease. Professional cleans also reach below the gum line and between teeth where brushing physically can't — and each visit doubles as an early-warning check on your whole mouth.
Sealants are a thin protective coating applied to the deep grooves on the chewing surfaces of back teeth — the place most cavities start. They're especially valuable for children as their adult molars come through, and for adults with deep grooves or a history of decay. Application takes minutes, is completely painless, and requires no drilling.
Research consistently links oral health with general health. Gum disease has been associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, poorer blood sugar control in diabetes, and other systemic conditions. While good dental hygiene isn't a guarantee against these, keeping your mouth healthy is a meaningful, evidence-supported part of looking after your whole body — and it's one of the easiest preventive habits to maintain.
Please tell us before we begin — sensitivity is common and very manageable. Adrienne and Tracy adjust their technique, pace, and equipment for sensitive patients, can apply desensitising products before or after the clean, and will check in with you throughout. Many sensitive patients are surprised at how comfortable a well-managed professional clean can be — and treating the underlying cause of sensitivity is something we can help with too.
