Book NowWe recommend scheduling your child's first dental visit around their first birthday or within 6 months of the first tooth appearing — whichever comes first. Early visits allow us to check that teeth are developing normally, identify any concerns early, and most importantly, help your child build a positive relationship with dental care from the start.
For most children, a check-up and clean every 6 months is ideal. Some children — for example, those at higher risk of decay — may benefit from more frequent visits, and we'll let you know if that's the case for your child. Eligible children aged 2–17 may be bulk billed under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, meaning no out-of-pocket cost for routine care. Just bring your Medicare card and we can check eligibility for you.
Let us know when you book — it makes a real difference. We can schedule a familiarisation visit where your child simply explores the chair and meets the team with no treatment at all. At home, keep the conversation light and positive, and avoid words like "hurt", "needle" or "drill" — even in reassurance. Our team uses playful, age-appropriate language and always moves at your child's pace, and for children who need extra help, comfort and sedation options are available.
Yes. We use modern digital X-rays, which involve a very low radiation dose — significantly less than older film X-rays and comparable to a small fraction of the natural background radiation we're all exposed to every day. We only take X-rays when there's a clear clinical need, and we use appropriate protective measures for young patients.
Stay calm and give us a call straight away — we keep time for emergency appointments. In the meantime, rinse your child's mouth gently with warm water, apply a cold compress to the outside of the cheek to reduce swelling, and if you can find the broken fragment, store it in a small container of milk and bring it with you. Avoid giving very hot or cold food and drinks until your child has been seen.
