Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know before your visit — appointments, costs, health funds, emergencies and more. If we haven't covered it, just ask.

Appointments

We recommend a check-up and clean every six months for most patients. This allows us to detect any issues early and keep your mouth in optimal health. Some patients with specific conditions may need more frequent visits — we'll advise you on the right interval at your appointment.
You can book by calling us on (02) 4306 7053, or by filling in the booking form at the bottom of any page on this site. Our team will confirm your booking promptly. If you have a preferred dentist or a preferred time of day, let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate it.
Your first visit includes a comprehensive examination, any necessary X-rays, and a discussion about your dental history and goals. We'll explain what we find in plain language and talk you through your options before anything is scheduled. Most first visits also include a clean.

Emergencies

Call us straight away on (02) 4306 7053 — we prioritise emergency cases and will get you seen as soon as possible. For a knocked-out tooth, hold it by the crown (not the root), keep it moist in milk, and get to us quickly. For severe pain or swelling, don't wait — early treatment prevents complications.
Yes. You don't need to be an existing patient to be seen for a dental emergency at Coastal Dental. Call us and we'll fit you in as soon as we can.

Costs & Health Funds

Yes — we accept Afterpay and DentiCare payment plans to help spread the cost of treatment, alongside HICAPS for on-the-spot health fund claims. Visit our Finances page or ask our front desk team about which option suits your treatment.
We accept all major Australian health funds through HICAPS, which means your rebate is processed instantly at the practice and you only pay the gap. We're also a Bupa Members First practice, and we accept HCF and CBHS. See our Finances page for full details.
Always. We provide a clear, itemised treatment plan and quote before any work begins, including what your health fund is likely to cover. There are no surprises — if anything changes during treatment, we'll discuss it with you first.

Children

Absolutely — children are especially welcome at Coastal Dental. From first visits and check-ups to sealants, fluoride treatments and fillings, we make dental care a positive, gentle experience for young patients.
Yes. We accept the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which provides up to $1,132 over two years toward basic dental services for eligible children. Our team can check your child's eligibility for you.
We recommend a first visit by around 12 months of age, or when their first tooth appears. Early visits are short, gentle and mostly about familiarisation — helping your child feel comfortable with the practice long before any treatment is needed.

Treatments

Depending on your situation, options include dental implants (a permanent, standalone replacement), fixed bridges, and dentures. Implants are the closest thing to a natural tooth — they preserve jawbone health and don't rely on neighbouring teeth. We'll walk you through the best option at a consultation.
Yes — we offer professional whitening with both in-chair and take-home options. Professional whitening is safer and significantly more effective than over-the-counter products, with results visible after a single appointment.
A great deal. We offer comfort and sedation options ranging from Penthrox inhaled pain relief through to oral sedation, IV sedation and general anaesthetic for more complex cases. Tell us you're anxious when you book — we'll take extra time, explain everything as we go, and work at your pace.
